Am I having a period?

I've never had my period and I'm starting to think I am on it. I'm 12 years old. It all started when I went to the bathroom. My underwear had brown kinda goo (I'm sorry it's disgusting) but my pee was not red . But when I wiped I saw red . I put on a panty liner and went on with the day . But every time I used the bathroom it was red when I wiped . I don't know if I have a cut down their or its my period . And I'm scared to ask my mom .
