My boyfriend never says anything nice about me...?

I asked him why he doesn't compliment me and he said "you don't believe me no matter what I say." Is it wrong of me to expect him to say something nice every once in a while? Even if he thinks I don't believe him it would still be nice to know that he cares by saying something nice.
