Physics Question: Relative Motion. PLEASE Help!?
Question: An airplane flies with a velocity of 55.0 m/s [ 35o N of W] with respect to the air (this is known as air speed). If the velocity of the airplane according to an observer on the ground is 40.0 m/s [53o N of W], what was the wind velocity? I worked it out by saying VaG = VAG - VAa. I found the components of both given velocities, subtracted the one from the other then used C^2 = A^2 + B^2 to get 21m/s. Then used tan function to get [1* N of E] Is 21m/s [1* N of E] the correct answer? Only knowledgeable answers please! I need to know if I did this right and got the right answer.
