Will pine needles kill weeds?

I just moved to Georgia and there are two very large pine trees in my yard that are shedding pretty rapidly. In my back yard the half furthest from the house is overgrown with weeds and I was wondering if I took the pine needles I've been raking up from the other parts of the house and spread it where the weeds are if the acid from the needles would get rid of them?
