Can someone with a domestic violence record live with someone that has a gun ?

Can someone with a domestic violence record live with someone that has a gun ? I want to purchase a shot gun but I'm not sure if i can buy it because someone in my family has a record of domestic violence the last time he went to jail was seven years ago ... Can he get in trouble if I buy it and we live under the same roof ?
