Should i buy my acquaintance a birthday balloon?

Her birthday is on Monday. I don't really know her all that well but I do have money and I feel that it would be polite to buy her a birthday balloon. Am I obligated to do so? She informed me that is her birthday on Monday and I feel that she wants me to do something special for that occasion. Should I give her a card and a birthday balloon. We are both 16.
