Cat with fleas. Help!?

My 8 year old male cat has 2 ticks. We've tried various types of tick medication and nothing has worked! He is an outdoor cat and goes outside frequently. We have 2 other cats, one is 3 and the other is 1, and my 8 year old cat completely despises them. He growls constantly. He even growl if the other cats look at him. He is a very cranky cat. It takes 3 people to catch him to try and get the tick off but he bites and scratches and just totally flips out. We've used the same tick medicine on my 3 year old cat and he has not had a tick since. I am very frustrated and do not know what to do. We can't hold him down to get the tick off of his fur and tick medication is not working. Help!
