19 year old female traveling alone?

I'm 19 years old and I want to go to my boyfriends Basic Military Training graduation from the Air Force. I live in North Carolina and the Air Force Base is in Texas. My parents are worried that its dangerous for me to travel alone. My boyfriend's dad is also going but I would not be on the same flight as him. I would only be staying there for 5-6 days. Is it unsafe for me to go alone?
