What is the appropriate key term?

"The different character developments in the novel also relate to diversity. Harry, for example, is an orphan who was born to a wizard father and a muggle mother....." I've also added descriptions of Ron and Hermione. But I think "character developments" is not the right term. Should it be "character characteristics" or something esle?
