Need help glazing. I made a dragon out of clay with scales so what i did was paint the entire thing one color?

then i wiped the surface with a wet sponge so only the color left in the etched in scales stayed on withclean lines. But not i need to paint the surface the is not the scales around the etched in parts. Any ideas?
