Kids didn't eat dinner?

My two oldest kids, ages 5 and 3 did not eat dinner tonight. They always eat. I feel horrible for not giving them anything. I told them no snack if they didn't eat but I don;t want them to go hungry. Should I make them go without eating till breakfast or make them something else for dinner and still not give them a snack. I am not giving them reguardless but should I make them something else? Or would you make them wait till the morning?
