what does this quote mean, please?

This quote is from a movie. That's why I put this question here :) HE SAID: "I've always thought of it a bad friendship for you (talking to a female). But now that I think of it, I think it is worse for her." Does it mean he doesn't really value his friendship with her? Does it mean he thinks her friendship is bad for her only?
