Veg*ns, do you think freegans are cheaters, or are they legit?

Freegans are basically people who may eat/use an animal product if they don't want it to go to waste. A freegan might order a vegetable soup at a restaurant, because he doesn't want to pay for meat, and give money to the meat industry, but he might eat the leftover chicken sandwich his friend didn't finish. Why, he wouldn't be paying for the sandwich, so it's okay? Most freegans believe in using up waste, and try to avoid spending money on new items. So, do you think they're cheaters, or do you think they're commendable?
