Ick treatment! Please help?

So I have a ten gallon tank with two fish in it. One is showing signs of ick, i called the pet shop and on their advice heated the water. I'm going to get medicine tonight. I was wondering if it is ok/safe for me to take the fish out of the tank, remove ALL water, plants and gravel, clean everything in hot water, set everything back up, treat the water, put the fish back an give them the medication? The tank has only been up and running for a little over a week and I was advised not to clean the tank yet, however that was before ick made an appearance.
