Why is everytime I turn this feature on, it makes my phone slow and lock it up?

Ok I have an LG G stylo android 5.1.1 and I have developer options turned on and every time I switch the background process limit from standard limit to no background process, it will run fine for a little while, but then it will lag and freeze up. Does anyone know what s wrong?? I m sick of the battery drain and the apps wakening!!
