I drive around 30 miles each day all in the city instead of a highway. How much wear and tear does this cause on my car?

I only drive in the streets, so I don t know if that means that all the braking and stuff is causing any extra damage in the car. I can hear the brakes squeaking, so I should definitely get the brakes replaced, correct?
