would i be okay to leave a tampon in for 8 hours why im at school then go home and wear a pad?

I hate using school toilets but would it be okay for me to put a tampon in around 7.30am and take it out about 3.30pm (8 hours) and then when i take it out use a pad for the rest of the day? or would i get that shock syndrome thing?
