Question on pc to tv? ?

So I am going to order a gaming computer for my birthday, and I am not to sure I will have enough for a monitor. But in my room I have a 42" 1080p tv. I was wondering since my motherboard has an hdmi out-put will 1920x1080 resolution look fine for gsmes? And I wouldn't really care if it looked not so good. And if possible should I save up for a like 23" lcd monitor.
