What can I do to increase Facebook page reach? (animal rights page)?

Hi, I have a page on Facebook that helps with dog adoptions in Italy, the page is called SOS Segugi. I was on a solid increase of page reach until FB changed settings, and now my subscribers must add the page to their interest list to receive updates. I averaged about 12000 people reached at any one time, and after the settings change, the page has gone down to 3000. This is pitiful as the ones to pay the price are the animals seeking a home. Am I missing something here? Thank you for all the help, the souls of these dogs (scent hounds) are grateful. Thanks!!!
