Public transportation from Brooklyn to New Jersey?

Hi guys!! I need to attend college at NYU Poly (brooklyn Metrotech center). I'm planing to live in NJ (say Jersey City, any other suggestions are welcomed), and travel to Brooklyn on a daily basis by public transport!! Please guide on which route to take, and what mode of transport, etc......which is most convinient and economical on a daily basis!!
