Will steroids stop my weight loss?

So I have ulcerative colitis and I'm going on a steroid called prednisone to treat it, I don't want to but that's what my doctor has told me to. But one of the side effects is weight gain. But I'm very very overweight and have been in the process of getting fit. If I'm workout out everyday and eating healthy can I still lose weight despite the side effects. Or should I just give up and wait until I stop this mediation to try to lose weight.
