Which cost more, old buildings or new?

If you think about it, there are old cottages and even mansions that were built hundreds of years ago, and are sold for a heck of a lot of money. But then, you realise that these brand-new technological houses cost a lot too. So I was wondering: what costs more, old buildings, or new ones?
