if word length of a computer is 4byte than how it fetch instruction from RAM?

I have this confusion because i think RAM is divided into fixed length of a single byte,,if it is so than how will the computer know that it has to take 4byte in bundle, to make a single word. Or is it that a 4byte PC have the RAM divided in 4byte's per address of RAM. plz don't mind my englsh
