Why is it so hard to read comics online?

coming in from the manga/anime world, i thought i would give comics a try. with any manga all you have to do is go to google and type "(manga name) read online free" and it gives you a million sites where you can read that manga. Why cant comics be that simple? i just want to start from the very beginning of the batman comics and read it all the way through. I guess western culture is stingier and more strict on distribution copyrights but ffs not even one site? tl;dr where can i read batman comics online from the beginning
