Can I transfer my Boost Mobile service to an old phone I got from Metro PCS?

I'm trying to update my handset on the Boost website using the Metro PCS phone's MEID number. It's telling me the number is invalid though. Are the Boost network and the Metro phone incompatible or am I just putting in the wrong number?
