Bad reaction to both the combined and mini pill, are there viable alternatives?

I get the side effects from both full on. I'm a student and I can't be putting up with nausea, splitting headaches and severe mood-swings all the time. Me and my partner use condoms in addition to the pill, but are there any equally reliable contraceptives I could look into? I don't like just using condoms, as one has split before and I had to take emergency contraception. Thanks
