Is my pet fish, Floaty okay?

So I got floaty a few months ago and every things been great. Every day I take him for a walk, play fetch with him outside, and let him spend quality time with my cat where they play scratchy, a game where my cat scratches these icky orange round things off him. But now Floaty is beginning to smell and I'm worried about him. I've taken him to th vets and they say he's dead but I know he's not! Is he ok
