Why are the Miami heat always good?

Miami has always been good, and although their football team and baseball team are struggling right now they have a long history of being good as well. However, this basketball team has ALWAYS been good, the only times I can think of when the heat weren't good was that one season when shaq and wade were injured and they both underwent surgery causing the heat to miss the playoffs and one other year when they first joined the league in 1988 or 89. since then they've been built very good teams around Alonzo mourning/ tim hardaway, d-wade and shaq, and now the big 3. and before that they had a good group of guys around ronny siekley. I feel like they are the lakers of the east instead of boston who won most of their chips in the stone age.
