After bacteria dies inside a pimple, what happens to it?

I've been doing some research about benzoyl peroxide and what it does to acne bacteria and basically what I learned is that it delivers oxygen to the pimple which kills the bacteria. So what I really want to know is, what happens to the bacteria inside the pimple once it has died? Does it stay there? Does is disappear somehow? Will the pimple become smaller/disappear after the bacteria is killed?
