Are people dismissive of teenagers?

I'm in my 20s but I notice when I mention something I did as a teen and mention the age, other people are dismissive and even rude to me. I heard someone say that teen girls are the more irrelevant demographic on the planet. Maybe true, but I'm trying to making a point and nothing more. Are people dismissive of teenagers?
