is it okay to ask for a higher starting pay?

i am going to be moving to virginia with my boyfriend. i applied to a pet resort, got a call back the next day, and we scheduled a test day for me to go down. if i do get the job, the downside is that its only 8 bucks an hour which is less than i make now and i dont know if i can survive on my own with that. is it okay to ask for a higher starting pay? and if so, how much would be acceptable?
