Tonsils removed? Help?

I have to have my tonsils out. Here's my questions. Answer please. How do the doctors prep you? Do you feel when it happens? Does it hurt? How long does it hurt afterwards? Do you cough up scales? (I heard you do) If not, then what do you cough/throw up? How do you feel afterwards? How long does it take?
