My Samsung Galaxy tablet will not charge. Help??

I have the Samsung galaxy tab 2. Yesterday it was charging and I tripped over the cable. After this there was a red x over the charging battery symbol and it said connect to charger. I had to hold it at a strange angle to get it to charge. However, the battery has now died. It will no longer charge. If I push down on the cable the charging batter screen comes up for a second and goes straight away. What can I do to fix this, Please Help. Thank you!
