What was he trying to show me? That he still has feelings for me?

My ex saw me walking and asked me if I wanted a ride to where I was going and it was really hot so I took him up on his offer. As I turned to get out of the car I suddenly felt him put his arms around my waist, and we hugged (we hadn't seen each other in three years) for the longest time. he just held me like he missed me. Then he kissed me three times but they were romantic kisses. What do you suppose he was trying to tell me by doing all of that?
