Adopted a dog, no vet reports?

Hi I recently adopted a 10 month old pug from a family who could no longer take care of him. They told us he had his first round of shots, but he has no vet papers, they told me they lost them. I want to get him his other shots but I don't have proof that he had his first round. What do I do?
