Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Root Warranty Void?

I want to root my Galaxy Tab 8.9 and I read in some forums that it voids your warranty. My question is what exactly does warranty give? If I root my device, then after "successfully" rooting it, and it malfunctions or has errors, can the Samsung still support me or help with it? Thank you!
