What laptop specifications should I be looking for, for a non-gaming laptop?

I want a cheap simple laptop that can get the job done nicely on simple tasks such as general web browsing, reading pdf;s and ebooks, writing many essays for university and watching lots of videos. I'm not interested in gaming for this laptop. Would something like an i3 laptop be good enough? What other specifications should I be looking for?
