How do I fix my slow internet?

I have an HP pavilions g6 that I got for christmas in 2011. Recently, i noticed the internet connection to be really slow. It says that I am connected to the internet and I've already ran a virus and spyware scan and a registry cleanup and a live update is running now. If this doesn't fix it what do I do? Also, I have Norton security suite
