Will my foot work the same after a ruptured tendon? How long will it take to heal?

My peroneal tendon ruptured about a week ago and I'm a busy athlete. I've been told it won't be the same and also it'll even be stronger than before. I just would like to know for sure. Will I be able to play soccer the same or will I constantly have to worry about hurting it again?
