does turbo boost work for gaming?

well i have a game that is 2.4 ghz and 3.2 ghz with turbo boost but there's game i wanna play and every system requirement is perfect but my processor speed is not enough. The game requires 2.8 ghz so does turbo boost help run games? my graphic card is 3gb. and i heard that having turbo boost on for to long will kill the laptop. Is that true? is it because it heats it? i have a laptop
