We rescued a dog from a shelter..?

He's 1 1/2 years old, husky/golden retriever mix. He was beaten from previous owners so he's kind of skeptical and scared. other than a little scared he's such a sweetheart. How can we make him feel more welcome? And less afraid.. Were playing with him, fetch, lots of praise & attention, and my daughter gives him tons of kisses.. Hes warming up to us but He won't eat his food right now either.. And he's been here almost a full day
