Will I be able to play linebacker for my first year of football?

I'm 5'9 and 140lbs I do wrestling, track, and I've recently started boxing. Next year I'll be in 8th grade I have no experience in football though. I know our schools linebacker is supposed to be pretty bad and last year a lot of kids on the team told me to join and play linebacker even though they knew I had no experience. I'm not too worried about tackling people or anything I can get that over the summer, but I am worried about reading plays. I might talk to the coach before school ends and see what he thinks. Does anybody know how I can prepare myself ahead of time?
