What would Earth be like if?

If Earth had a more eccentric orbit say 0.3 what would be different? Im imagining tons of water vapor being evaporated from the oceans when Earth is closer to the sun and then colossal snow and rain storms pouring all that water down hen Earth is farther from the sun? Could something like that occur? Would life survive?
