Why would he mention about other girls....?

Guy is working in my home country right now and he has been talking about his observations of girls over there. For example, one time he said he likes how the girls do their makeup there. After I played cool about it, he wrote back saying that they are not his type because they are too skinny, pale, and short. Im totally opposite from what is "not his type". And I don't get why sometimes he talk about female friends over there. Could he just be making conversation?
