This guy mentions his ex, also complains about being single. Should I steer clear?

He tells me a lot that it's hard taking care of his dog because he's single. He also dropped a hint about his ex girlfriend, saying that "my ex girlfriend screwed up my credit because of not paying a bill in both our names". He seems interested in me, but if he were a catch, would he be saying those things? Should I steer clear?
