Did he ask because he might want something more or the complete opposite?

After our first date he (29 y/o) told me he likes me but he doesn't know what we might have in common. I told him I've seen we do (we've been talking for a while before). He said yes, but I don't know what you are looking for... expectations wise. What does this mean? Does it mean he just wants some fun? He doesn't plan on any romances whatsoever? I told him I liked going out with him and hoped to do it more often. He said he wanted to go out with me again. Then, when I asked what he wants, he said, "friendship, everything starts from that, right?"
