TEENS: Is it "too much" to wear a dress on first day of school?

I have a really pretty red dress....I found out I guy I like is in my first period. I want to make a good impression. But I don't want to seem desperate/too much. I have a dressy red dress. It's not too fancy, but it's dressy. Could I wear it with sandals, dangling earrings, and my hair straightened? Or would that be too much? Also, the dress flatters my figure (I'm a bit chubby) and i look a little dumpy in my shorts and tank tops. But what should I wear? Will I get a lot of weird stares/attention if I wear a red dress my first day at a public high school? I'm going to be a senior by the way.
