Can I study for Media and Film studies out of school?

I really want to do Media and Film studies for GCSE, I've already picked my options. The school I'm at does not offer these subjects at GCSE level, If I had a tutor and studied It on my own, would my school let me take the exam even If they don't teach the subjects? Who would mark the course work? and Is it possible?
