Need advice about this guy?

I live in Brooklyn and he lives in Manhattan. So we both are Indian and 22 years old. I have this guy friend who I met at the mall for a ice cream. My mom got upset and she yelled at me over the phone, and she also threatened him that she will tell his parents and call the police. After that he said to me he wants to come with me to my parents clothing store at the mall. He came with me and over there my mom asked him his parent's occupation, major, gpa? He lives with his parents live in apartment and his dad is a truck driver, and his mom works in post office. I live with my parents in a house and my parents have a clothing store at mall. My mom started saying to me that aren't you ashamed you like a guy who's dad is a truck driver? After we got in trouble we never hangout. Then I became so desperate that I text him that I want to meet him because he has a huge circle of female friends that he might forget me? He said to me that I know we will hangout too sometime. But I don't worry so why you worry? He said to me why you think negative, where is your self esteem and confidence. He said I don't want you to get into trouble your mom can see the phone bill. We both have same goal in life to become doctors. Right now he's a senior in college and he's going to go medical school in California. I'm a first year medical student in Cincinnati because I graduated 1 year earlier than him. He consider me as friend right now maybe because we're young and we have to focus on our school. But I like him as potential life partner. Idk in next 5 years he might change his decision? Can that happen or its my imagination? My mom says to me that you are stupid that you still talk to him over the phone even when she yelled at him. I don't know when I will meet him maybe when I'm done with medical school. I feel like my mom will never like him because of his living standard. Also I'm not perfect either I was born premature with a shunt and he knows that he respects me. He added me on Skype and we skype for 30mins 1 time and then he asked me when we should skype again. I told him after 1 week and he said okay. Please help me what should I do to change things a bit for the future I can't focus on my medical studies because I'm worried that I might lose a really nice guy friend. I called him on his birthday he and texted me on my birthday which was after we got in trouble. He had strong courage to text me because my mom could have seen my phone but she couldn't because I had it.
