How to make a signpost on Tumblr blog?

So i know you can add "menu" to the side of the blog, but that menu only redirects you right to the article. For example in the menu people put "FAQ" "About Me" but that's directly the article. I need this Menu on the side of my tumblr blog, that would have categories like for example "Food" "Sports" "About me" and if someone would click them, it would show them just articles in that category. for example you click Food and it would show you all the articles, photos, links etc etc i wrote on that.. so "Spaghetti recept" "I baked pie today - see how it went" and so on.. But i can't seem to find the HTML code :( i tried several codes but all of them do the simple menu.. and i need this ._. help please?
